For Wednesday, please read the following article: I Met A Convicted Serial Killer, And He Made Me Feel More Loved Than Anyone Else In My Life. No written response is required, but come to class prepared to discuss!
On Wednesday, we will be talking about Fallacies of Argument. Please read Chapter 5 on this topic, pp. 74-89 from Everything’s An Argument and find an example of one of these fallacies in a source you have considered for your research paper. You will turn in a quotation that contains the fallacy and a one-paragraph explanation.
For Monday, read the following blog post, Cockblocking Rapists Is A Moral Obligation; or, How To Stop Rape Right Now by Thomas and write a one-page response.
Does the author make a convincing case that there is a problem? If yes, how? If no, why not? What does he offer as a possible solution? Do you think this is a good solution? Support all of your claims with evidence from the text.
A 4-page draft of your Argumentative Research Paper will be due on Friday for Peer Review. Please come prepared so that you can earn credit for this assignment. I will be collecting your partial drafts and returning them to you on Monday, so you must have a physical (printed) copy with you.
For Wednesday, please prepare an outline or one full page of pre-writing/brainstorming for your research paper. What will you discuss in each section/paragraph?
You should also be working on writing your paper! A 1/3rd draft (4 complete pages) will be due on Friday.
For Monday, write a rough draft of the introductory paragraph of your research paper. This should contain a tentative thesis statement. We will be workshopping them in class.
Also, please read the following article: Sexting Leads To Teen Having To Register As A Sex Offender. There is no written response required, but you will want to be prepared for discussion.
For Friday, read Chapter 19: Using Sources from Everything’s An Argument (pp. 418-433).
Please come prepared for our in class activity with your Annotated Bibliography and your sources. (You may bring a laptop or tablet to access them digitally or print out the articles and bring paper copies to class.)
